The original blue board for fibre cement rendered walls.
Product Details
Made by James Hardie for over 20 years, Hardie™ Tex Base Sheet is the original blue board.
Hardie™ Tex Base Sheet is a strong, pre-primed base sheet that is finished on-site with a specialised texture coat system*. Hardie™ Tex Base Sheet is the original way to create a decorative, monolithic rendered look without the need for masonry. Hardie™ Tex Base Sheet is suitable for use as an external cladding in residential homes, including renovations and extensions, where a lightweight system with a monolithic rendered look is required. For an even easier solution choose Hardie™ Fine Texture Cladding, an 8.5mm thick panel featuring a v-groove joint, which has the render texture embedded in the panel.
Best for Hardie Tex Base Sheet
- Rendered-look exterior walls without brick or blockwork
- Renovations and extensions where reduced wall weight is beneficial
- Upper-storey additions where lightweight systems are preferred
- Projects wanting flexibility to choose texture and paint finishes on-site
- Facades needing a clean, continuous “monolithic” appearance
- Builds seeking a fibre cement base sheet that supports texture coat systems
Selecting the best type
Choose sheet length to match wall heights
- Pick the sheet length that reduces horizontal joins and cutting waste for your wall layout.
Choose your finish pathway
- If you want a site-applied texture system, select this base sheet approach.
- If you want a faster “texture included” approach, compare pre-textured panel options before ordering.
Why builders and fixers use it
- Consistent surface: creates a uniform base for coating systems, helping reduce visible patchiness and “read-through”.
- Durable substrate: suitable for high-traffic elevations and areas prone to knocks.
- Predictable set-out: large-format sheets speed up coverage compared to smaller cladding boards.
Key installation notes
- Frame accuracy matters: any out-of-plane studs can telegraph through the finished coating.
- Follow joint detailing: joint reinforcement and sealant selection should match the coating manufacturer’s system.
- Moisture management: use sarking/wrap, flashings, and correctly detailed penetrations to control water entry.
